Ensemble Audition Information

Wayne State University Department of Music ensembles are open to all music majors and non-majors. Audition requirements and audition time sign-up procedures are listed for each ensemble. For more information, please contact the listed ensemble director.

University Symphony Orchestra

Music majors, non-music majors, and employees of the University are welcome to apply. Non-Music Majors are highly encouraged to audition.

Jazz Ensembles and Combos

Fall 2023 Auditions: Thursday August 10, 2023 from 12:30pm-2:00pm

Old Main Room 2402 and 2414

*Students do not need to make an appointment, but just show up in person at 12:30pm.

All students who wish to be in the following Jazz Ensembles should attend the Placement Audition:

Jazz Band I & II
Guitar Ensembles I & II

Combos
Jazztet

Audition Requirements:

Students will be asked to play along with each other, read charts, and improvise.

Wind Symphony

Choral Ensembles

All students expecting to participate in a WSU choral ensemble for Fall 2023 must complete a placement audition or hearing. All placement auditions and hearings will be held in person by appointment.

CONCERT CHORALE AUDITIONS FOR FALL 2023 ARE CLOSED. Please sign up for a Choral Union Hearing Appointment to sing with Choral Union.

Fall 2023 Choral Union Hearings: Monday August 21, 2023-- 12:00pm-4:00pm

Warrior Marching Band

There are no audition requirements for Warrior Band. Students must already know how to play their musical instrument and have at least one year of marching experience.

Campus Band

Campus Band, which is offered during the Winter semester, does not require an audition and is open to any and all students, faculty, and staff who desire to make music in a welcoming, community environment.
