Concerto Competition

CONCERTO COMPETITION 2024 ANNOUNCEMENT

The Concerto Competition will take place on Tuesday, November 26. The winner and a possible runner-up will be featured as soloists with the Orchestra during the Winter semester of 2025

Students who wish to participate must obtain written approval from their instructor; approval may be sent via e-mail to the orchestra director. (k.markou@wayne.edu). Students who graduate in December 2024 are eligible.

Instrumentalists and vocalists must be prepared to perform a work that is written for solo voice and orchestra or a solo instrument and orchestra, for ex. an aria from an Opera, or a movement from a concerto, or other concert work. Works for 2 solo instruments and orchestra are acceptable. Likewise, duets solo voices and orchestra are acceptable.

Only students who are extremely well prepared should enter. The judges have the right to interrupt a competitor who is not sufficiently prepared. It is also important to select pieces that are suitable for performance with our University orchestra. Please avoid presenting works for which the orchestral parts are difficult to secure or are very expensive to rent.

Participants must perform with piano accompaniment. It is the participant’s responsibility to secure a capable accompanist.

It is recommended that you prepare your solo from memory. Even though playing from memory is not required the judges will consider performing from memory as enhancing the performer’s stage presence.
