Ensemble Audition Information
Wayne State University Department of Music ensembles are open to all music majors and non-majors. Audition requirements and audition time sign-up procedures are listed for each ensemble. For more information, please contact the listed ensemble director.
Choral Ensembles
WINTER 2025 Concert Chorale Auditions: Wednesday, December 18th, 2024
Location: Old Main, Schaver Music Recital Hall
Concert Chorale Auditions: Students that are already in Concert Chorale...meaning those that either sang in the ensemble during the Winter '24 season or successfully auditioned for the ensemble for the Fall '24 season...do not need to complete a hearing/audition this semester. There will be additional auditions held for MUA 2850/7850 Concert Chorale. Interested persons are requested to perform a brief song (spiritual, art song, aria). Please bring an extra copy of your music with the accompaniment to the audition. Additionally, students will be expected to sightread a portion of a selected chorus from Mendelssohn's Elijah in their respective voice part.

University Symphony Orchestra
Fall 2024 Auditions: Tuesday and Wednesday August 20-21, 2024

Jazz Ensembles and Combos
Fall 2024 Auditions: Thursday August 8, 2023 from 12:30pm-2:00pm
Location: Old Main Room 2402 and 2414
*Students do not need to make an appointment, but just show up in person at 12:30pm.

Audition Requirements:
Students will be asked to play along with each other, read charts, and improvise.

Choral Union Placement Hearings: Students planning to participate in MUA 2840/7840 Choral Union are requested to perform a brief song (e.g., art song, aria, hymn, musical theater excerpt, etc.). Please bring an extra copy of your music with the accompaniment to the audition.

Warrior Marching Band
While there is no audition prior to band camp, members of the Warrior Band are expected to demonstrate basic competence of marching and playing at the appropriate collegiate level. This includes marching in step and time, and the necessary range and technique to confidently and loudly perform on their instrument. Students who do not demonstrate this ability by the end of preseason band camp will be dismissed for the season from the ensemble.

Campus Band
Campus Band, which is offered during the Winter semester, does not require an audition and is open to any and all students, faculty, and staff who desire to make music in a welcoming, community environment.
