Student recitals
Before beginning the steps below, talk with your private instructor (for MUP recitals) or faculty supervisor (for BA Project recitals) well in advance. That way, you're both on the "same page" regarding the expectations for your recital and your plans to meet them. You should also make sure you're registered for the appropriate recital course (MUA 4990, MUP 4470, MUP 4480, or MUP 8290) and the appropriate private lessons (MUP) course for the semester in which you intend to present your recital. Then, complete the following steps in sequence:
- Approvals: Submit a Recital Request Form to provide basic information about your recital and begin the process of seeking approvals from your private instructor or faculty supervisor, your Area Coordinator, and the Department Chair. Once all three have approved, you'll receive an email with further instructions.
- Scheduling: First, look on the Recital Availability Calendar below to see which dates/times are available for recitals. Next, work with the faculty members on your recital committee (for MUP recitals) or your faculty supervisor (for BA Project recitals) to determine a date/time that works best for everyone. Then, complete and submit a Recital Scheduling Form to request your date/time in Schaver Music Recital Hall. Once it's approved by the department's Facilities Manager, you will receive an email officially confirming your reservation and offering instructions for the final step.
- Program: Use the Recital Program Information Form to provide information for your recital program at least four weeks before your recital date.
Recital Planning Timeline for Winter 2025
- Monday, November 18, 2024 - Available dates/times for Winter 2025 recitals appear on the Recital Availability Calendar.
- Monday, December 2, 2024 at 8:00 AM - The Recital Request Form and Recital Scheduling Form open.
- Friday, January 31, 2025 at 5:00 PM - steps 1 and 2 above must be completed. Because you need approval from, and to coordinate with, multiple faculty members, you should start these forms as early as possible!
- Four weeks before your recital date - step 3 must be completed.
At this time, recital planning is only available for Winter 2025. The department will make an announcement when recital planning becomes available for Fall 2025 and beyond.
Recital Availability Calendar
For Winter 2025, select dates are available in March and April. You may need to scroll the calendar to the correct month to see available dates. See the notes below the calendar for additional information.
- On the calendar above, each "event" represents a date/time for a student recital. The name of the event consists of a code number, which you will need in order to complete the Recital Scheduling Form in step 2 above. If the name of the event also includes "hold" or "reserved," then that date/time slot is not available.
- Remember, your recital is not officially scheduled, and your venue is not reserved, until you receive an email message from the Department of Music saying so.
