Wayne State University is pleased to invite the finest high school students to participate in the annual Wayne State University Honor Orchestra Day, to be held on Monday February 3, 2025. This daylong event will take place on the campus of Wayne State University. Participating students will work with ProfessorKypros Markou, conductor of The Wayne State University Orchestra, and Wayne State University string faculty who are members of the Detroit Symphony. Participants will also interact and perform side-by-side with members of the Wayne State University Orchestra, as well as Instrumental Music Education majors and future teachers. The day will conclude with a gala concert that will feature all String Day participants performing side-by-side with the University Orchestra under the direction of Kypros Markou. No fee is required for high school students to attend this event and all student participants will receive lunch, dinner, and a Wayne State University t-shirt.
Membership in the High School Honor Orchestra is for students in grades 9-12. Selection of participants in the Honor Orchestra will be based on the recommendation and assessment of their school orchestra director.

Deadline
To be considered, nominations must be received by January 7, 2025. Students selected for the Honor Band will be notified by January 15, 2025 of their selection. At that time, parents and students will receive detailed information about the day's schedule, where to park, what to bring, and other information. We kindly request that you only nominate students who can make the commitment for the entire day.
Honor Orchestra Schedule
A full schedule will be sent upon selection for the Honor Orchestra. Participants can expect to arrive around 9:00am for a full day of rehearsals and workshops and enjoy a lunch pizza party! Wayne State University will also provide dinner to student participants before the culminating performance at 6:30pm in the brand new Gretchen C. Valade Jazz Center, located at 4743 Cass Ave.
What better way is there to energize your students than to have them participate in a great day of music making? We would especially like to invite any students considering a career in music, as well as students considering attending WSU in the future.
