Professor Markou to conduct 100th anniversary celebration concert of the Clara and Henry Ford Estate

Professor Kypros Markou will conduct the Dearborn Symphony in a special concert to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the beloved home of Clara and Henry Ford on Sunday, September 20 at 2 pm at the Henry Ford Estate-Fair Lane in Dearborn. "Music on the Meadow" will bring together the rich history of Fair Lane with a program featuring music by American composers Aaron Copland, Leonard Bernstein, Paul Creston, George Chadwick and Leroy Anderson. In addition to this afternoon of music along the banks of the Rouge River, guests may stroll through the grounds and gardens of Clara & Henry Ford's beautiful home.

Additionally, the program will include a demonstration of historic instruments from Henry Ford's own collection. These include a trombone in the key of G from about 1840, a Cornet from about 1855, a Baritone Horn, from about 1867, an over-the-shoulder Tuba in E-flat, from about 1870 and a circular Alto Horn from 1870. Also, a violin, probably made between 1860-1870 by George Gemunder; this violin had been used by Maud Powell, the first American woman solo violinist to gain international recognition, and lastly a Marimbaphone made in 1920.

Honorary Chairs for the event are Governor Rick Snyder and First Lady Sue Snyder and Dearborn Mayor Jack O'Reilly and his wife Christina. The Honorable Debbie Dingell and Honorable John D. Dingell are members of the Honorary Committee.
