Department of Music to partner with the Cathedral of the Most Blessed Sacrament for 49th Annual Salute to Downtown Detroit

The Department of Music is pleased to announce the 49th Annual Salute to Downtown Detroit at the Cathedral of the Most Blessed Sacrament on November 14 at 7:30 p.m.

Bringing together three of the premier ensembles from the department, the University Symphony Orchestra, Wind Symphony, and Symphonic Chorus, the students and faculty are proud to present this annual event saluting downtown.

"The yearly Salute to Downtown Detroit is something that the entire department looks forward to." Said Norah Duncan IV, Professor and Chair of the Department of Music and former director of music at the cathedral. "It brings together the greater Detroit community and our students to show the pride we all have for our great city.

Joe Balistreri, director of episcopal music at the Cathedral of the Most Blessed Sacrament agrees with Duncan. "The cathedral is proudly committed to Detroit, so we are delighted to partner with our musical neighbors at Wayne State.".

The event features nearly 200 students from the Department of music. Repertoire for the event includes Franz Schubert's Mass No. 2 in G Major, selected movements from Bach's Orchestral Suite No. 3, and Frank Ticheli's Angels in the Architecture.

The 49th Annual Salute to Downtown Detroit is free admission. Donations will be accepted.
