The 2022 Detroit Jazz Festival is returning this weekend September 2-5 in person and online. The annual four-day event is the largest free premiere jazz fest in the world. Audiences from around the world can enjoy 40+ hours of live jazz performances from custom soundstages in Detroit.
A variety of Wayne State University's Department of Music faculty, students and alumni will also be featured during the event:

6:00- Hart Plaza - Festival Opens with"Shannon Powell and Dr Valades Brass Band" procession- This band is made up of all JC Heard JazzWeek@Wayne Students (In preparation for this performance, the students were coached in this traditional NOLA style by NOLA legend Shannon Powell throughout their JazzWeek in July. 7:00 Carhartt Amphitheater Stage - Artist in Residence Chucho Valdes; "Creation- Big Band Includes Detroit All-Stars led by Chris Collins featuring several WSU Faculty- Also playing at Kennedy Center and Chicago Symph.
