Undergraduate auditions

Two steps to becoming a Music major at Wayne State

1. Apply and be accepted to the University through Undergraduate Admissions.  
Prospective students should complete WSU application (all application materials submitted) at least one month prior to Department of Music audition date. 

2. Present a successful audition on a principal instrument or voice. Audition requirements for the various programs are listed below.

Online Audition Information for Fall 2020 Auditions

Due to COVID-19 response policies we are currently holding auditions virtually through video submissions, online interviews (if applicable to the program) and supplemental document uploads (portfolio, essay, resume, ect.).

Monday, August 17, 2020 
We are accepting video audition submissions now through August 17, 2020 for Fall 2020 admission. Please fill out the Audition Request Form and you will be forwarded video auditions submission guidelines. If you have any questions, please email music@wayne.edu.

If auditioning during this time please refer to the Online Audition Requirements page in order to prepare for your audition submission. 

In-Person Audition Registration (currently postponed due to COVID-19)

Audition registration for undergraduate applicants. 

The deadline to register for an audition is two weeks before the audition date you choose. You will receive your audition time via e-mail one week prior to your audition date.

Theory Placement Exam

There will be a 15-minute Theory Placement Exam required of students auditioning for all undergraduate Music concentrations: Theory Practice Exam and Theory Practice Exam key
