Gary Hellick

Biography

Gary began his musical training at the Interlochen Arts Academy, earning a Young Artists Award. He continued with a Bachelor's Degree in Music Performance cum laude at Wheaton College, IL, studying with members of the Chicago Symphony. He later served a Teaching Assistant post at Arizona State University while earning a Master's degree in Music Performance and Pedagogy. Gary is a freelance trombonist and bass trombonist in the Detroit area. Ensembles he performs with include the Detroit Symphony, Michigan Opera Theater, Detroit Chamber Winds, Fisher Theatre Orchestra,Toledo Symphony, Toledo Opera, Toledo Concert Band, Stranahan Theater Orchestra, Ann Arbor Symphony, Flint Symphony, Lansing Symphony, Kalamazoo Symphony, Saginaw Bay Symphony, Motor City Jazz Orchestra, and the Jimmy Dorsey Orchestra. He has been Professor of Trombone at Wayne State University since 2007, and is also Professor of Low Brass at Concordia University Ann Arbor.
