Department of Music expands virtual engagement with Music @ Wayne: Random Acts of Music social media project
As Michigan’s stay-at-home order lifts, Wayne State University’s College of Fine, Performing and Communication Arts faculty and students continue to find ways to express their creative talents and engage with colleagues, the community and beyond.
The Department of Music is expanding its community engagement efforts with Music @ Wayne: Random Acts of Music, a social media project providing the Creative Warrior community the opportunity to engage, connect and share creative content from wherever they are. The department aims to show that while there may be uncertainty in the world and we aren’t on campus at the moment, there are still ways to stay connected.
“We believe that music can provide comfort and even joy in some of the most difficult times,” said Norah Duncan, IV, chair of the Department of Music. “If ever there was a time to share music and connect with our community, that time would be now.”
A call to share, connect and engage
Wayne State students, faculty, staff and alumni are invited to record and submit a video of themselves performing a piece of their choice from their home/office/etc. This shared content is meant to be short, casual and easily recorded from anywhere as a way to highlight their talents, passions and creative endeavors.
- Students, faculty and alumni: Showcase a performance, such as pieces from planned degree recitals, lessons or collaborations with friends.
- Faculty and alumni: Share a favorite inspiring piece; a short, recorded lecture about music; an interview with a colleague on issues pertaining to music; and more.
How to submit content
The Random Acts of Music webpage has been created for students, faculty, department staff and alumni to upload their creative content, learn about additional opportunities to engage and propose creative ideas. All are encouraged to visit the site to learn more.
Random Acts of Music will begin sharing content on The Department of Music’s Instagram and Facebook accounts as well as its newly created Wayne State Department of Music YouTube Channel. The department will also continue to showcase ensemble performances through its virtual series The Music Studio @ Wayne State premiered through the department’s Facebook page.
