"Chris Collins to front a quartet at Kerrytown Concert House in Ann Arbor"

by Mark Stryker

Tenor saxophonist Chris Collins has been a familiar presence in the media over the past year as the recently installed artistic director of the Detroit Jazz Festival. Collins has long been part of the Detroit scene both as a player and director of jazz studies at Wayne State University. Collins will be fronting a quartet that encompasses the Dobbins-Krahnke-Weed Trio, a longstanding working band, at 8 p.m. March 2 at Ann Arbor's Kerrytown Concert House. One of Collins' Wayne State faculty colleagues, alto saxophonist and flutist Russ Miller, steps into the spotlight with his own straight-ahead quintet at 8 p.m. March 6, at the Grosse Pointe Unitarian Church.
