Honors
The Irvin D. Reid Honors College and the Department of Music are working together to offer an Honors option for students majoring in music. Departmental Honors is designed to allow students more concentrated study and challenge in the core courses required in the major. Students pursuing Departmental Honors must complete a minimum of 12 credits from the list of courses below with an "honors option" designation.
Students who receive an invitation to pursue University Honors may also elect Departmental Honors.
To discuss the options of either Honors tracks (Departmental or University) please contact the Department of Music academic advisor, Dr. Edwartowski.
Requirements for Departmental Honors (12 credits):
- HON 42XX - Junior/Senior level Seminar (3 credits)
- Undergraduate Thesis in conjunction with MUT 5997 - Analytical Techniques (3 credits)
- Six honors credits of MED, MUA, MUH, or MUT, achieved through an "honors option" project, in courses at the 2000 level or above (6 credits) [see note below]
- Maintain an overall GPA of 3.3, and a GPA of 3.5 in music courses.
Note: Faculty may supervise Honors Option projects at their discretion.
