WSU Choral Audition Information

All students expecting to participate in a WSU choral ensemble for Fall 2019 must complete a placement audition or hearing. Placement auditions and hearings will be held in Old Main 2337.

The schedule and ensemble-specific instructions are as follows:

Concert Chorale Preliminary AuditionsMon., Aug. 26, 10 AM–4 PM
Please arrive before your audition time to complete an placement audition form. Students auditioning for MUA 2850/7850 Concert Chorale must perform a prepared art song or aria. Please come to the audition warmed up and bring a copy of the music for the pianist. Additionally, students must be prepared to sing measures 1–37 Musicks Empire by Loyd Pfautsch (NOTE: basses enter in m. 1; tenors enter in m. 10; and sopranos and altos enter in m. 18). Students who have not prepared the audition excerpt will not be considered for Concert Chorale. The audition will also include an excerpt to assess sight singing proficiency and vocalization exercises to assess range. Callback auditions for Concert Chorale will be held on Wed., Aug 28, 12:30–2 PM in Old Main 412 (Schaver Music Recital Hall). The first class meeting will take place on Fri., Aug. 30, 12:30–2 PM in Old Main 412 (Schaver Music Recital Hall).
 
Choral Union Placement AuditionsTues., Aug. 27, 10 AM–4 PM
Please arrive before your audition time to complete a placement audition form. Students scheduled for placement auditions for MUA 2840/7840 Choral Union are strongly encouraged to bring a prepared piece (e.g., art song, aria, hymn, musical theater excerpt, etc.) to sing for the choral faculty. Please come to the audition warmed up and bring a copy of the music for the pianist. The audition will include an excerpt to assess sight singing abilities and vocalization exercises to assess range. The first class meeting will take place on Thurs., Aug. 29, 1–2:15 PM in Old Main 2402 (Large Ensemble Room). The second class meeting will take place on Fri., Aug. 30, 12:30–2 PM in Old Main 412 (Schaver Music Recital Hall).
 
Men's Glee Club Voice Placements: Wed., Aug. 28, 3–4:15 PM
Please arrive before your voice placement hearing time to complete a voice placement form. Students may schedule a 10-minute voice placement hearing with Prof. Sutton (asutton@wayne.edu) from 3–4:15 PM during the first day of classes. Students scheduled for voice placement in MUA 2830/7830 Men's Glee Club are strongly encouraged––but not required––to bring a prepared piece (e.g., art song, aria, hymn, choral piece, musical theater excerpt, etc.) to sing. The voice placement hearing will include vocalization exercises to assess range. The first class meeting will take place on Wed., Sept. 4, 3–4:15 PM, in Old Main 2380 (Langsford Room). NOTE: If you completed a placement audition for Concert Chorale or Choral Union, you do not need to schedule a voice placement hearing for Men's Glee Club.
 
Women's Chorale Voice Placements: Thurs., Aug. 29, 3–4:15 PM
Please arrive before your voice placement hearing time to complete a voice placement form. Students may schedule a 10-minute voice placement hearing with Prof. Sutton (asutton@wayne.edu) from 3–4:15 PM during the second day of classes. Students scheduled for voice placement in MUA 2870/7870 Women's Chorale are strongly encouraged––but not required––to bring a prepared piece (e.g., art song, aria, hymn, choral piece, musical theater excerpt, etc.) to sing. The first class meeting will take place on Tues., Sept. 3, 3–4:15 PM, in Old Main 2380 (Langsford Room). NOTE: If you completed a placement audition for Concert Chorale or Choral Union, you do not need to schedule a voice placement hearing for Women's Chorale.
