Undergraduate Advising

Undergraduate students have TWO advisors:

1. A Faculty Advisor in the Major Department:

First year undergraduate students will receive initial advising as a follow up to the audition and theory placement process required for admission to the Department of Music. During the first semester, students should seek additional advising with Dr. Norah Duncan IV. Dr. Duncan meets with students by appointment. For an appointment, call the main office in the Department of Music at 313-577-1795.

Subsequently, students should consult with faculty in their area of concentration and meet with a faculty advisor prior to every registration period.

Transfer students should consult with the department as part of the audition and theory placement process required for admission to the Department of Music. For this consultation, students should bring transcripts of previous courses.

2. A General Education Advisor:

Students should seek additional advising in planning their university General Education requirements by making an appointment with Kenya Swanson, the CFPCA advisor in the University Advising Center. The center is located in the David Adamany Undergraduate Library, 1st floor. Call (313) 577-2680 for an appointment.
