The Sphinx Preparatory Music Institute @ Wayne State University is a tuition free program offering classes to Detroit students in music history, music theory/ear training and instrumental performance for ten Saturdays during both fall and winter semesters (20 weeks total). It serves string, woodwind, brass, percussion and piano instrumentalists, ages 11-18, with a focus on middle school students. The program is designed to address the needs of students in pursuit of music studies at beginning and intermediate levels who lack access to steady, balanced musical training.

Weekend School of Music, now in its 32nd year, is sponsored by the Southeast Michigan Arts Forum.  The program offers instrumental and music theory classes for elementary, middle and high school students on Saturdays in Old Main.
